SUMMARY:Infrastructure Readiness for Automated Vehicles: Guidelines and Case Study Insights
DESCRIPTION:The adoption of Automated Vehicle (AV) technologies is expected to impact the transportation industry by offering new strategies to overcome safety\, mobility\, and climate resiliency challenges. However\, their successful deployment hinges on infrastructure that can meet the requirements of AV systems operating in diverse conditions—what’s known as their Operational Design Domain (ODD). Join us for this NOCoE-hosted webinar highlighting early findings from the NCHRP 20-102(24) project\, Infrastructure Modifications to Improve the Operational Conditions of Automated Vehicles.\nPresenters will introduce the project-developed AV Infrastructure Guidelines\, which offer practical recommendations for infrastructure owner-operators (IOOs) seeking to prepare their transportation networks for AV deployment. The guidance covers key focus areas such as pavement markings\, roadway surfaces\, signage\, signals\, work zones\, geometric design\, policy\, and digital infrastructure. \nThe session will also feature preliminary findings from field and driving simulator-based case studies conducted by the University of Cincinnati\, which evaluate how AV technology responds to today’s infrastructure and how modifications to infrastructure influence human perception of AV technologies. \nThese insights are helping to refine the guidelines to ensure they are actionable and grounded in real-world performance. Attendees will preview the forthcoming TRB WebResource and have the opportunity to provide input prior to its final publication. \nClick here to register. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_sytBFNeXRKGSNTz0fdFWqQ

SUMMARY:Short-Term Traffic Prediction for Proactive Transportation Management
DESCRIPTION:The search for traffic congestion solutions continues to evolve with advances in technology and a better understanding of traveler behavior. Consequently\, transportation agencies are evolving towards a proactive management approach that is capable of delaying or eliminating traffic flow breakdowns.\nA key aspect of proactive management is short-term prediction of traffic conditions. Short-term prediction (STP) is a real-time prediction capability that uses both historical and current data to forecast future traffic conditions for a pre-defined prediction time horizon in the near-term (e.g.\, the next 10\, 20\, 40\, 60 minutes). \nThe ability to conduct STP is essential for moving up the Active Transportation and Demand Management (ATDM) continuum to a state of truly proactive management. STP also enhances integrated management as agencies have enough time to share information and take coordinated\, proactive actions. \nClick here to register. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rTDQSETdRuKwcFtLrlt-WQ

SUMMARY:What Can Police Stop Data Tell Us About Traffic Safety?
DESCRIPTION:Across the country\, police traffic stops are touted as a tool for improving road safety—but not all stops are equal in impact. From DUI enforcement to minor equipment violations\, the behaviors targeted vary widely\, and so do their impacts on traffic safety.\nIn response to growing concerns about policing practices\, many jurisdictions have created detailed police stop databases. These rich data sources were primarily designed to examine demographic disparities—but what if they could also help us better understand and prevent serious and fatal crashes? \nIn this webinar\, SafeTREC’s Liza Lutzker will share research using the confidential version of California’s police stop database\, which includes stop narratives and locations. As the first research team with access to this data\, we’re developing innovative methods to categorize stops by traffic safety relevance—helping us answer a critical question: Are traffic stops aligned with the behaviors that actually cause the most harm on our roads? Join us to explore how these datasets can be repurposed for traffic safety research\, what insights they offer\, and where their limitations lie. \nClick here to register. https://unm.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-8MquH_rSmK8Iayvw-xujQ#/registration
