SUMMARY:WTS Foundation – MassDOT Right-of-Way Process Webinar
DESCRIPTION:November 9\, 202212:00–1:00PM EST\nEvent Link https://www.wtsinternational.org/events/pd-event-massdot-right-way-process \nJoin WTS-Boston’s Professional Development Committee as we welcome the MassDOT Right of Way Bureau\, which coordinates acquisition of real property for state transportation projects. Massachusetts’ transportation system is dependent on an extensive network of highways\, bridges\, and streets which require continual updates and improvements. The acquisition of right-of-way is vital to the development of infrastructure projects and is often the critical path to getting a project advertised on time. The Professional Development Committee is excited to host the MassDOT ROW Bureau leaders as they walk us through how to successfully navigate their current process\, followed by a Q&A session. This event will be held virtually via Zoom and cost non-member $5.

SUMMARY:Public Meeting – Federal Certification Review of NJTPA
DESCRIPTION:November 1\, 20225:30—7:00 PM EST\nZoom Link https://www.njtpa.org/Get-Involved/Info-Resources/Calendar/2022/November/Public-Meeting-Federal-Certification-Review-of-NJT.aspx \nThe primary purpose of the certification review is to ensure that the NJTPA is satisfactorily implementing federally required transportation planning activities. This meeting provides an opportunity to talk directly with staff from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) about the transportation planning process in the NJTPA region. \nFederal law requires every urbanized area with a population of more than 50\,000 to have a designated metropolitan planning organization (MPO) to carry out continuous\, comprehensive\, and cooperative transportation planning. The NJTPA region includes Bergen\, Essex\, Hudson\, Hunterdon\, Middlesex\, Monmouth\, Morris\, Ocean\, Passaic\, Somerset\, Sussex\, Union\, and Warren counties. For transportation providers in these areas – including state and local governments and public transportation operators – to continue to receive federal transportation funds\, the FHWA and the FTA must certify the NJTPA’s compliance with federal transportation planning regulations not less than once every four years.

SUMMARY:Pursuing Data-Driven and Equity-Centric Transportation Projects: Challenges and Opportunities for Local Actors
DESCRIPTION:The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act allocated a historic $1.2 trillion in federal funding for projects ranging from transportation and energy to water and broadband. In accordance with the Biden administration’s executive orders on advancing racial equity and tackling the climate crisis\, federal agencies are requiring applicants to provide more evidence on how proposed projects will affect “disadvantaged” communities\, including communities with low incomes and communities of color. Yet localities often face numerous challenges in accessing and using the data necessary to quantify the equity impacts of potential projects.\nJoin the Urban Institute for a discussion of our findings on the obstacles local agencies encounter when applying for federal funding for transportation projects\, strategies for using data to center racial equity in project decisions\, and best practices for putting together data-driven funding proposals. \nSPEAKERS \n * Judah Axelrod\, Senior Data Scientist\, Office of Race and Equity Research\, Urban Institute\n * Samantha Fu\, Policy Associate\, Research to Action Lab\, Urban Institute\n * Vineet Gupta\, Director\, Policy and Planning\, Boston Transportation Department\n * Kirsten Mote\, AVP and Director of Smart Mobility Planning\, Modern Mobility Partners\n * Karolina Ramos\, Policy Associate\, Research to Action Lab\, Urban Institute\n * Maria Schaper\, Associate Director\, Transportation Planning\, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission \nREGISTER HERE https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_4K9q8vtIRuC4hdkv9ITtzQ \nFunding and research for this event was provided by grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. SUMMARY:A-GAME Session 3: Bridge the Gap - Communicating Subsurface Conditions for Construction.
DESCRIPTION:Session 3 and Update on the A-GaME – Communicating Subsurface Conditions for Construction\nGeotechnical subsurface investigations are not just about design parameters. Geotechnical site characterization must also inform constructability decisions and provide contractors with the information needed to get the job done efficiently and effectively. Explore ways to improve our investigation processes\, to effectively communicate site conditions to all stakeholders\, and to establish a collective understanding of anticipated conditions and contingencies for bidding and construction decisions. SUMMARY:Road Weather Spotlight: Moving Towards a More Connected and Automated Future
DESCRIPTION:The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Road Weather Management Program (RWMP) has launched the Road Weather Spotlight\, a monthly webinar series discussing challenges of various road weather events\, lessons learned\, and practical solutions. The series will run the first Wednesday of each month from May to October\, 2022. The August webinar will focus on “Moving Towards a More Connected and Automated Future.”\nJoin Tony Coventry of FHWA’s Road Weather Management Program\, Peter Jager\, the Traffic Technology and Innovations Project Manager at Utah Department of Transportation\, Tyler Weldon\, the State Maintenance Engineer at Colorado Department of Transportation\, and Dan Rowe\, the Connected and Automated Vehicle Project Manager at Minnesota Department of Transportation to discuss how automation\, connectivity\, and road weather management coincide.

SUMMARY:Connecting the Dots: How Transportation\, Climate\, and Inflation Intersect (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Transportation and Land Use dictate most Americans’ experiences with climate change and carbon emissions\, as well as the prices of everything people use. To reduce emissions and maintain a reasonable cost of living\, America needs to look at aspects of transportation and land use and how they interact with inflation and climate change.\nJoin America Walks with Yonah Freemark of the Urban Institute and Nailah Pope-Harden of Climate Plan California as they explore this relationship and discuss strategies and solutions to help protect Americans from both rising costs and the threat of climate change and to make America more livable. \nRegister here https://register.gotowebinar.com/#register/311394211950024976

SUMMARY:Advanced Project Bundling – A Reference for Getting Started
DESCRIPTION:Advanced Project Bundling – A Reference for Getting Started\nTuesday\, July 19\, 2022 12:00:00 PM EDT – 2:00:00 PM EDT \nBridge and project bundling utilize economies of scale to deliver projects more effectively. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) expects bundling to enhance delivery of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). So if you are interested in bundling transportation projects but don’t know where to begin\, please join this peer exchange as FHWA rolls out a new resource guide\, “Advanced Project Bundling – A Reference for Getting Started”. You will learn about the importance of bundling practices and how to use the Reference’s information and tools provided.\nThe guide gives States\, local public agencies\, and tribal nations information to consider when implementing advanced project bundling for all funding sources. Topics covered will include why advanced project bundling should be considered; advanced project bundling practices; organizational self-assessment; getting started with planning\, budgeting\, and funding; and creating agency business rules\, processes\, and procedures for consistently selecting effectively bundled projects. The document includes case studies\, tools for agencies\, and checklists.\nREGISTER HERE https://connectdotcqpub1.connectsolutions.com/content/connect/c1/7/en/events/event/shared/1112389207/event_registration.html?sco-id=1337726808
