From DUI enforcement to minor equipment violations\, the behaviors targeted vary widely\, and so do their impacts on traffic safety.\nIn response to growing concerns about policing practices\, many jurisdictions have created detailed police stop databases. These rich data sources were primarily designed to examine demographic disparities—but what if they could also help us better understand and prevent serious and fatal crashes? \nIn this webinar\, SafeTREC’s Liza Lutzker will share research using the confidential version of California’s police stop database\, which includes stop narratives and locations. This presentation highlights the virtual assessment of the Koyukuk River Bridge (#1261)\, where DOT&PF used drones and Starlink-enabled livestreaming to perform a real-time evaluation of structural damage. DESCRIPTION:Many cities are working to develop high-quality\, cost-effective\, and sustainable transport systems centered on bus rapid transit http://brtstandard.org/ (BRT) and active mobility. Advocates must overcome many challenges in the planning phases of these systems\, however\, including gathering initial analyses of emissions\, costs\, and economic impacts. Proper planning requires a kind of “scoping” to build momentum for investment and to implement systems that ensure long-term access and ridership.\nEarly data collection is key to implementing successful and sustainable mobility networks. This is where data-driven tools\, such as ITDP’s SCOPE http://(scope.itdp.org)\, can make a significant impact. With the BRT SCOPE web tool http://scope.itdp.org/ \, anyone can obtain ridership\, climate\, and air quality predictions for potential corridors in about 20 minutes. The web tool also makes it easy to compare and share results and is available to use in English\, Spanish\, and Portuguese. If pricing is implemented as a per mile basis\, all vehicles pay the same rates and travelers can choose to drive less and save money with associated health\, safety\, and congestion benefits. Additionally\, while many pricing policies impose new costs with the goal to fill revenue gaps\, existing driving costs can also be “repriced” by converting fixed costs to variable costs.
