SUMMARY:Leveraging Data Tools for Better Transport Planning
DESCRIPTION:Many cities are working to develop high-quality\, cost-effective\, and sustainable transport systems centered on bus rapid transit http://brtstandard.org/ (BRT) and active mobility. Advocates must overcome many challenges in the planning phases of these systems\, however\, including gathering initial analyses of emissions\, costs\, and economic impacts. Proper planning requires a kind of “scoping” to build momentum for investment and to implement systems that ensure long-term access and ridership.\nEarly data collection is key to implementing successful and sustainable mobility networks. This is where data-driven tools\, such as ITDP’s SCOPE http://(scope.itdp.org)\, can make a significant impact. With the BRT SCOPE web tool http://scope.itdp.org/ \, anyone can obtain ridership\, climate\, and air quality predictions for potential corridors in about 20 minutes. The web tool also makes it easy to compare and share results and is available to use in English\, Spanish\, and Portuguese. Beyond transit corridors\, ITDP’s SCOPE models can also support planning and analysis for bike lane networks https://itdp.org/publication/protected-bicycle-lanes-protect-the-climate/ as well as parking reform https://itdp.org/publication/off-street-parking-scope-emissions-tool/ policies. \nIn this webinar\, we will highlight real-world applications of the SCOPE tool for mobility planning\, data collection\, and assessment in cities in Mexico and Indonesia\, drawing from the experience of local ITDP teams. This session can be particularly beneficial for government officials\, planners\, or researchers seeking to leverage data to advocate for improvements and investments in their transportation systems. \nClick here to register. https://itdp-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-BFJMkn2S6CyLjitBiZM4w#/registration

SUMMARY:Pricing and Repricing: Leveraging pricing signals to achieve policy outcomes
DESCRIPTION:Pricing is one of the most impactful actions in meeting transportation policy outcomes. If pricing is implemented as a per mile basis\, all vehicles pay the same rates and travelers can choose to drive less and save money with associated health\, safety\, and congestion benefits. Additionally\, while many pricing policies impose new costs with the goal to fill revenue gaps\, existing driving costs can also be “repriced” by converting fixed costs to variable costs. Repricing policies convert fixed costs such as insurance premiums\, vehicle taxes\, and registration fees to variable costs by charging them on a per mile basis.\nClick here to register. https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_tB7T2w35RWWj4gsp16O-kg#/registration

SUMMARY:Short-Term Traffic Prediction for Proactive Transportation Management
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss upcoming research findings and publications on STP\, plus lessons learned from early adopters.\nThe search for traffic congestion solutions continues to evolve with advances in technology and a better understanding of traveler behavior. Consequently\, transportation agencies are evolving towards a proactive management approach that is capable of delaying or eliminating traffic flow breakdowns. \nA key aspect of proactive management is short-term prediction of traffic conditions. Short-term prediction (STP) is a real-time prediction capability that uses both historical and current data to forecast future traffic conditions for a pre-defined prediction time horizon in the near-term (e.g.\, the next 10\, 20\, 40\, 60 minutes). \nThe ability to conduct STP is essential for moving up the Active Transportation and Demand Management (ATDM) continuum to a state of truly proactive management. STP also enhances integrated management as agencies have enough time to share information and take coordinated\, proactive actions. Register below to learn about this solution from both FHWA and public agencies who are implementing it. \nClick here to register. https://transportationops.org/event/short-term-traffic-prediction-proactive-transportation-management
