SUMMARY:Lunchtime Tech Talk! RABIT: Automated Condition Assessment of Concrete Bridge Decks by Robotic System
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Nenad Gucunski will discuss the RABIT™ bridge deck assessment tool. The RABIT™ is the first fully automated device that simultaneously gathers quantitative data using several nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technologies and melds this data into a comprehensive diagnostic representation of concrete bridge deck condition. Benefits gained through use of this technology include: 1) quantitative condition assessment of concrete bridge decks; 2) simplified data interpretation; 3) faster data collection and analysis; 4) costs reductions; 5) improved safety for workers and drivers; and 6) reduced negative environmental impacts. Dr. Gucunski and his team are the recipient of the 2014 ASCE Charles Pankow Award for Innovation for the development of RABIT™.\nRegister at: http://techtalkrabit.eventbrite.com

SUMMARY:2018 Annual Work Zone Safety Conference
DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey Work Zone Safety Conference promotes work zone safety awareness on local and state roadways specifically for a multi-disciplinary audience of construction\, engineering\, and maintenance and operations personnel\, and public safety professionals.\nThere will be a panel discussion that will cover cone crew operations and a presentation addressing the NJDOT 295/I-76/Route 42 Interchange project in Camden County from a work zone safety perspective. There will also be a keynote presentation on connected vehicles and traffic control devices followed by a presentation on large truck safety in work zones. Finally\, the Maryland Department of Transportation will present their experiences and lessons learned with automated speed enforcement technology in work zones. \nAs part of the program\, the New Jersey Work Zone Safety Excellence Awards – recognizing inspirational efforts of individuals\, companies and roadway agencies that have demonstrated effective temporary traffic control in planned work zones on New Jersey roadways – will also be presented. \nRegistration is complimentary\, however seating is limited. \nFor more information see: http://cait.rutgers.edu/njltap/2018-annual-work-zone-safety-conference

SUMMARY:Smart Cities and Transportation
DESCRIPTION:TECH TALK!Brown Bag Lunch Session\nSmart Cities and Transportation \nKenneth M. Leonard\, Director of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO)\, will share the lessons learned so far from the Smart City Challenge. In December 2015\, the USDOT launched the Smart City Challenge\, asking mid-sized cities across America to develop ideas for an integrated\, first-of-its-kind smart transportation system that would use data\, applications\, and technology to help people and goods move more quickly\, cheaply\, and efficiently. \nRegister at: https://smartcities-transportation.eventbrite.com

SUMMARY:Getting through the Green: Smarter Traffic Management with Adaptive Signal Control - 2nd Date Added!
DESCRIPTION:Brown Bag Lunch Session\nC. William (Bill) Kingsland\, Assistant Commissioner\, Transportation Systems Management \nDue to popular demand\, Assistant Commissioner Kingsland will offer a 2nd presentation for the Tech Talks! Brown Bag series on January 29\, 2018. \nHe will speak about the NJDOT’s implementation of Adaptive Signal Control (ASCT) technology. ASCT\, in combination with well-engineered signal timing\, allows for faster responses to traffic conditions. This means that there is improved traffic flow and less unnecessary delay. ASCT is one of the Federal Highway Administration’s Every Day Counts initiatives. Mr. Kingsland will highlight recent NJDOT project work where ASCT has been successfully deployed.
