SUMMARY:Tools for the Zombie Apocalypse: Avoiding the Brain Drain in Transportation Organizations
DESCRIPTION:Avoiding Brain Drain in Transportation Organizations\nInformation is coming in and knowledge is going out more rapidly than anticipated. Not only are we losing knowledge from long-time employees\, but consultants and contractors have an equal amount of knowledge that could escape at any moment. \n * How can transportation agencies make sure that essential knowledge is retained?\n * How can they make sure that employees have access to the right information at the right time to be effective and contribute to the success of the organization? \nFor more information: Tools for the Zombie Apocalypse https://www.njdottechtransfer.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/TRB-KMTF_ToolsfortheZombieApocalypse.pdf \nTo register: Webinar Registration https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/1053763539256228097 \nAvoiding Brain Drain in Transportation Organizations \nThis session will focus on recent guidance and current practices that transportation agencies can apply to tackle these challenges. \nAnticipatory Knowledge – Donna Cuomo\, MITRE Corporation\nAn overview of MITRE’s approach to anticipating the knowledge and process needs of employees – and delivering the right information at the right time. \nGuidance for Development and Management of Sustainable Information Portals – Benjamin Pecheux\, Applied Engineering Management Corporation\nThis presentation summarizes a recent NCHRP study that created a guide for development and management of effective DOT enterprise information portals (EIPs). \nPanel Moderator: Becky Burk \nThis is Part II of a two-part program. Part I will be held July 13\, 2018\, noon – 1pm ET

SUMMARY:TRB Webinar: Research in Progress Database: Entering Projects and Searching Records
DESCRIPTION:TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday\, August 22\, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET that provides users of TRB’s Research in Progress (RiP) Database with the latest information about RiP’s search and data entry interfaces.\nThe RiP Database is a leading tool for transportation professionals to stay updated on current or recently-completed transportation research projects. In order to comply with federal Public Access Plan requirements\, projects that receive federal funding must be entered into the RiP database. This webinar is updating information presented during a webinar http://www.trb.org/Calendar/Blurbs/176215.aspx held on August 24\, 2017. \nThere is no fee to attend this webinar\, and no credits will be awarded. For more information on the event and how to register\, go to: http://www.trb.org/main/blurbs/177805.aspx

SUMMARY:TRB Webinar: Pavement Design Role Reversal: Mixtures Before Design and Construction
DESCRIPTION:TRB will conduct a webinar on Thursday\, August 23\, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET that will illustrate case studies where asphalt mixtures were specifically designed to meet situations in which conventional design approaches were not appropriate. In conventional practice\, the pavement is designed using a set of standard asphalt mixture properties\, resulting in a structural pavement thickness to meet traffic\, climate\, and safety conditions. However\, there are times when this approach yields poor pavement performance\, such as when high volume roads must be prematurely rehabilitated. This webinar will explore recent advancements in asphalt material modification\, mixture design\, and performance testing that now allow asphalt mixtures to be specifically formulated and produced to meet challenging pavement design and construction needs.\nThis webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committees on Structural Requirements of Asphalt Mixtures\, Non-Binder Components of Asphalt Mixtures\, and Design and Rehabilitation of Asphalt Pavements. \nSome registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into http://MyTRB.org to view registration information. \nWebinar Presenters \n * Kevin Hall\, University of Arkansas\n * Robert Blight\, New Jersey Department of Transportation\n * Jay Thompson\, South Carolina Department of Transportation\n * John Harvey\, University of California at Davis \nModerated by: Kevin Hall\, University of Arkansas \nRegistration questions? SUMMARY:American Society for Nondestructive Testing SMT and NDT-CD Symposia
DESCRIPTION:This joint conference is the one event in 2018 where international researchers\, manufacturers\, service providers\, owners of structures and those active in training\, validation and standardization of nondestructive evaluation for civil infrastructure will discuss state-of-the-art as well as innovative NDE technologies\, advanced modeling and best practices. The joint conference provides an open space for exchange of ideas\, new developments\, testing needs from owners\, asset management and research.\nTime on Monday will be allotted for attendees to visit the Bridge Evaluation and Accelerated Structural Testing Laboratory\, aka the BEAST\, at Rutgers University. The BEAST uses extreme traffic and environmental loading\, 24/7\, to simulate decades of wear and tear in just months\, giving data about deterioration and performance sooner than ever imagined. Transportation on Monday will be provided to and from the Hyatt Hotel. \nFor more information: http://asnt.org/MajorSiteSections/Events/Upcoming_Events/Bridges_2018.aspx
