SUMMARY:FoRRRwD Countermeasures: Signing\, Striping\, and Maintenance Treatments
DESCRIPTION:Rural roadway departures make up a third of U.S. traffic fatalities—about 30 people a day. The Every Day Counts round five (EDC-5) initiative\, Focus on Reducing Rural Roadway Departures (FoRRRwD)\, features four pillars: Addressing All Public Roads\, Systemic Approach\, Safety Action Plans\, and Proven Countermeasures. This webinar focuses on the Proven Countermeasures pillar.\nState\, local\, and tribal agencies – come discover how low cost and maintenance treatments can provide significant benefits to reducing rural roadway departure crashes. \nMore information including a listing of presenters and a link to registration can be found here https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/innovation/20200820_FoRRRwD_announcement_webinar.pdf . NOTE: FHWA recommends using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer for optimal registration experience.

SUMMARY:Adventures in Crowdsourcing: Using Crowdsourced Data for Traveler Information
DESCRIPTION:Crowdsourcing turns transportation system users into real-time sensors on system performance\, providing low-cost\, high-quality data on traffic operations\, roadway conditions\, travel patterns\, and more. This webinar highlights how crowdsourced data can help transportation agencies provide more timely and accurate information to the public using various traveler information avenues.Target Audience\nTransportation agencies\, traffic/transportation management center personnel\, GIS and mapping staff\, traffic data analysts\, emergency management organizations\, and public safety agencies.\nLearning Objectives\nHear from agencies that have or are advancing in the practice of data management to support crowdsourced data in operations.\nBetter understand ways that agencies can use crowdsourced information to inform the public via traveler information channels like dynamic message signs\, 511\, and agency websites. \nRegistration is free and more information can be found here https://transportationops.org/event/adventures-crowdsourcing-using-crowdsourced-data-traveler-information .

SUMMARY:CAIT Seminar Series: State-of-the-Art in the Use of Nondestructive Evaluation and Other Technologies for Comprehensive Assessment of Concrete Bridges
DESCRIPTION:Effective and economic management of bridges depends on accurately assessing their current condition\, and\, in turn\, predicting their future performance. Deterioration processes in reinforced concrete\, since they are a result of multiple inputs and actions\, are inherently complex. To fully and accurately characterize various types of deterioration\, and gauge its severity\, it requires the use of multiple NDE tools in concert with other technologies.\nThose NDE technologies can be effectively used in the assessment of all bridge components. However\, among all the components\, reinforced concrete decks deteriorate fastest\, primarily due to their direct exposure to traffic and environmental loading\, and maintenance actions. Therefore\, the most significant advancements in NDE technologies’ efficacy for detecting and characterizing deterioration\, including the automation of data collection\, were achieved for bridge decks. Those advances enable a more objective description of the current condition and allow us to predict the progression of deterioration more precisely. However\, it also has been shown that bridge performance varies widely\, even between bridges that are very close in age\, and that have similar traffic loads\, designs\, and climate conditions. Additional influences require examination. The complemental use of NDE\, SHM\, and other technologies for local and global assessment will provide the complete answers regarding disparate bridge performance. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of the advances in NDE technologies\, especially those employing rapid and automated data collection and analysis\, and benefits for bridge management stemming from periodical multi-NDE technology surveys. The presentation will also explore the ways to gain additional knowledge about bridge performance through the complemental use of NDE and other technologies.

SUMMARY:Value Capture Strategies: Tax Incremental Finance Districts & Transportation Reinvestment Zones
DESCRIPTION:On September 24th\, 2020\, the Federal Highway Administration EDC-5 Value Capture Implementation Team will hold Value Capture Strategies: Economic Development Tools virtual peer exchange. The program will feature experts who have successfully implemented Tax Incremental Finance Districts and Transportation Reinvestment zones to share their experiences. Are your state/local transportation agencies looking for new and innovative funding sources to help pay urban\, suburban\, and rural public roads as well as spur economic development & redevelopment? Do you know which economic development tools are available to fund transportation infrastructure projects to attract new development or retain businesses to your community? Do you need infrastructure to accommodate your communities’ anticipated growth or assistance in implementing Incremental Growth Techniques? Come to the Value Capture Strategies peer exchange on September 24th\, 2020 to learn how Value Capture Strategies can help your state and local authoriites.\nValue Capture Incremental Growth Strategies enable the states and locals to invest in transportation infrastructure and other improvements and pay for them by capturing the future increase in property tax revenues generated from the new development and economic activities. Lacking funding\, communities across the nation are ill prepared to meet the crises of infrastructure investment such as deteriorating infrastructure\, rapid growth\, urbanization\, climate change\, and many others. Value Capture strategies can be a reliable and sustainable transportation gap funding tool. It also helps local governments in a variety of economic development goals\, including job creation\, growth in property values\, and protection of the local tax base.\nTARGET AUDIENCE: Metropolitan and Rural Planning/Programming Organization\, States\, Cities\, Counties\, Townships\, and Tribal Transportation Professionals. Anyone involved in development or administration of the Value Capture Program Elements
