SUMMARY:TRB Webinar: Speed and Sight Criteria for Geometric Design
DESCRIPTION:Acceleration\, deceleration\, and stopping sight distance (SSD) criteria are key factors in determining roadway geometric design requirements. These elements are influenced by variables such as grade\, vehicle type\, maneuver type\, brake reaction time\, object height\, and driver’s eye height. TRB will host a webinar on Thursday\, February 6\, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that will cover the findings from recent studies that assess design policies related to these criteria and informed recommendations for updates to the AASHTO Green Book.\nThis webinar is based on NCHRP Research Report 1081: Acceleration\, Deceleration\, and Stopping Sight Distance Criteria for Geometric Design of Highways and Streets https://nap.nationalacademies.org/catalog/27490/acceleration-deceleration-and-stopping-sight-distance-criteria-for-geometric-design-of-highways-and-streets . \nThis webinar is sponsored by TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program and the Standing Technical Committee on Performance Effects of Geometric Design. \nRegistration is free for employees of TRB sponsors as well as Titanium and Cobalt Global Affiliates. The registration rate for all other attendees is $100. Sign into MyTRB.org https://www.mytrb.org/ to view registration information. \nA recording will be sent to all registrants after the webinar. \nWebinar agenda and presenters \n1. Overview of NCHRP 15-75 and related field and crash studies – Peter T. Savolainen\, Michigan State University \n2. Development of revised design guidelines – Timothy J. Gates\, Michigan State University \n3. Translating results into practice – James A. Rosenow\, Minnesota Department of Transportation \n4. Question and answer session moderated by Eric T. Donnell\, Pennsylvania State University \nThe first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. \nClick here to register. https://www.nationalacademies.org/event/1016_02-2025_trb-webinar-speed-and-sight-criteria-for-geometric-design?utm_source=Transportation+Research+Board&utm_campaign=86d09afd7b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_06_12_07_16_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c66acb9bce-536f248fd6-469466169

SUMMARY:TRB Webinar: Quality Assurance of Transportation Materials and Construction—Part I
DESCRIPTION:A quality assurance program ensures that materials and construction meet the requirements of approved plans and specifications. Given the high turnover in the pavement and materials field\, uniform guidance is essential for training new engineers\, technicians\, and inspectors. TRB will host a webinar on Tuesday\, February 11\, 2025\, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Eastern that will provide an introduction to quality assurance components; discuss variability\, risks\, and pay factors; and identify indicators of material certification testing fraud.\nThis webinar is the first of a two-part series. The second webinar\, Quality Assurance of Transportation Materials and Construction—Part II\, will be held in March 2025. \nThis webinar is sponsored by TRB’s Standing Technical Committee on Quality Assurance Management. \nRegistration is free for employees of TRB sponsors as well as Titanium and Cobalt Global Affiliates. The registration rate for all other attendees is $100. Sign in to MyTRB.org https://www.mytrb.org/ to view registration information. \nA recording will be sent to all registrants after the webinar. \nWebinar agenda and presenters \n1. Introduction to quality assurance components – Dennis Dvorak\, retired Federal Highway Administration Resource Center \n2. Evaluating acceptance and payment risk – Rick Bradbury\, Maine Department of Transportation \n3. Indicators for material certification and testing fraud – Mike Copeland\, Idaho Department of Transportation \n4. Question and answer session moderated by Mark Felag\, Mark Felag\, P.E. LLC \nThe first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. \nClick here to register. https://www.nationalacademies.org/event/1018_02-2025_trb-webinar-quality-assurance-of-transportation-materials-and-construction-part-i?utm_source=Transportation+Research+Board&utm_campaign=86d09afd7b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2023_06_12_07_16_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c66acb9bce-536f248fd6-469466169

SUMMARY:Building Momentum - Advancing Roadway Safety Quickly and Efficiently (FHWA Roadway Safety Webinar Series)
DESCRIPTION:Innovative funding strategies and project selection tools can support agencies to get safety projects on the ground in a timely and effective process. This is especially important in areas and for communities that have suffered generational harms from agency decisions and the resulting transportation system. In this session\, you will learn about: – A toolkit to prioritize Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) projects – Local examples on institutionalizing safety for all in project delivery – Design tools to implement quick build projects on State arterials.\nClick here to register. https://usdot.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_1irJXcqWRtmd8LJRZ0maXg#/registration

SUMMARY:The New Behavioral Science of Mode Choice
DESCRIPTION:Single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) commutes and vehicle miles traveled (VMT) contribute more to climate change than active and public-transit mobility modes but changing to active transportation and public transit require just that: change. This webinar uses social science insights into how\, when\, why\, and where people make change to describe new\, low-cost\, impactful and behavior-oriented transportation interventions that support people in making climate-friendly changes. The webinar’s main message is that life changes like taking a new job\, moving to a new place\, and reconfiguring social networks create opportunities for mode shift where the transportation system makes mode shifts easy.\nClick here to register https://usdot.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_FnepgV99RUK4Wb9agY_f9w#/registration
