SUMMARY:MDOT in Motion: The Role of Micromobility in Maryland Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is open to the public\, transportation practitioners\, employers\, and anyone who is interested in learning more about this topic.\nMDOT in Motion is a series of webinars\, interactive sessions\, and educational opportunities offered by the Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Office of Active Transportation and Micromobility. The series highlights multi-modal projects and programs that are designed to get Marylanders moving safely\, and to connect them to opportunities and to each other. In Maryland\, Complete Streets is the deliberate approach to planning and designing streets for all users\, MDOT in Motion demonstrates opportunities to make options like walking\, biking\, and transit more accessible. \nThe July 3 webinar from 12 – 1 p.m. will explore the role of micromobility\, such as e-bicycles\, e-scooters\, and other small vehicles\, in Maryland. MDOT’s new program for micromobility includes work with the Motor Vehicle Administration to set vehicle safety standards and providing assistance to local jurisdictions that permit shared micromobility fleets for public use. Guest speakers Marta Woldu will showcase how the University of Maryland educates their community to ride micromobility safely and Tyler Smith will discuss the impact of the Baltimore City dockless vehicle program on transportation equity. \nClick here to register. https://events.gcc.teams.microsoft.com/event/f1b609e2-2906-4c4a-add1-d78374615e10@b38cd27c-57ca-4597-be28-22df43dd47f1

SUMMARY:Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials (NASTO) Conference 2025: Advancing Safety Through Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials (NASTO) conference brings together representatives from the state transportation departments of the Northeastern United States and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The NASTO conference serves as a cornerstone for fostering interagency collaboration and advancing transportation priorities in areas such as infrastructure development\, sustainability\, technology integration\, and multimodal connectivity.\nHosted annually in a rotating member state\, the NASTO conference offers a unique platform for networking and collaboration among Department of Transportation executives and industry leaders. This two-day event features high-level panel presentations\, interactive discussions\, and opportunities to explore key topics shaping the transportation sector. Additionally\, the host state takes center stage\, showcasing its unique infrastructure\, innovations\, and local highlights through technical tours\, social events\, and networking receptions. \nAdvancing Safety Through Innovation \nThe theme for NASTO 2025\, Advancing Safety Through Innovation\, reflects the collective commitment of transportation leaders to enhance roadway safety through cutting-edge solutions and forward-thinking strategies. As transportation agencies across the Northeast and beyond face evolving challenges—from increasing traffic volumes to integrating emerging technologies—this theme emphasizes the importance of innovation as a catalyst for creating safer roads and systems for all users. \nThe theme was chosen to address the urgent need for creative and impactful approaches to reduce roadway fatalities and injuries\, protect vulnerable road users\, and ensure the well-being of transportation workers and the traveling public. It acknowledges that while traditional safety measures remain critical\, advancing safety requires embracing new tools\, technologies\, and collaborative practices. \nBy focusing on “Advancing Safety Through Innovation\,” the conference aims to inspire attendees to think beyond conventional solutions\, share best practices\, and explore transformative ideas. From leveraging data-driven insights and automated systems to integrating smart infrastructure and fostering a culture of safety\, the theme aligns with the ongoing mission to make transportation systems safer\, more efficient\, and more resilient for the future. \nClick Here to Register. https://www.nasto2025.com/home/begin

SUMMARY:Nighttime Visibility for Safety – What’s Signs Got to Do with It?
DESCRIPTION:The nighttime fatality rate on the Nation’s roadways is three times higher than the daytime rate. Signs and pavement markings visible to motorists are essential in keeping motorists on the road. Adequately maintaining the nighttime visibility of these traffic control devices can be a challenge for road owners. Come hear how the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) are tackling the maintenance of these devices.\nClick here to register. https://vhb.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_NU7AYp0YRkKW_LbwcNY-NQ#/registration

SUMMARY:Leveraging Data Tools for Better Transport Planning
DESCRIPTION:Many cities are working to develop high-quality\, cost-effective\, and sustainable transport systems centered on bus rapid transit http://brtstandard.org/ (BRT) and active mobility. Advocates must overcome many challenges in the planning phases of these systems\, however\, including gathering initial analyses of emissions\, costs\, and economic impacts. Proper planning requires a kind of “scoping” to build momentum for investment and to implement systems that ensure long-term access and ridership.\nEarly data collection is key to implementing successful and sustainable mobility networks. This is where data-driven tools\, such as ITDP’s SCOPE http://(scope.itdp.org)\, can make a significant impact. With the BRT SCOPE web tool http://scope.itdp.org/ \, anyone can obtain ridership\, climate\, and air quality predictions for potential corridors in about 20 minutes. The web tool also makes it easy to compare and share results and is available to use in English\, Spanish\, and Portuguese. Beyond transit corridors\, ITDP’s SCOPE models can also support planning and analysis for bike lane networks https://itdp.org/publication/protected-bicycle-lanes-protect-the-climate/ as well as parking reform https://itdp.org/publication/off-street-parking-scope-emissions-tool/ policies. \nIn this webinar\, we will highlight real-world applications of the SCOPE tool for mobility planning\, data collection\, and assessment in cities in Mexico and Indonesia\, drawing from the experience of local ITDP teams. This session can be particularly beneficial for government officials\, planners\, or researchers seeking to leverage data to advocate for improvements and investments in their transportation systems. \nClick here to register. https://itdp-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-BFJMkn2S6CyLjitBiZM4w#/registration

SUMMARY:Alaska DOT's Innovative Use of Drone Technology - Everyday Tools and Emergency Readiness
DESCRIPTION:The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Bridge Section has steadily integrated drone technology into its bridge inspection program to address the challenges of working in remote locations\, rugged terrain\, and harsh conditions. What began as a tool for supplemental documentation has grown into a critical asset for both routine and special inspections. This presentation highlights the virtual assessment of the Koyukuk River Bridge (#1261)\, where DOT&PF used drones and Starlink-enabled livestreaming to perform a real-time evaluation of structural damage. DOT&PF’s drone program is built around practical application—simple\, field-proven workflows that keep inspections efficient and adaptable without over-complication. The session will also provide an overview of current research efforts aimed at developing standardized protocols to support drone-assisted inspections statewide.\nClick here to register. https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8902642744475907160
