All About Perception: PR and Transportation
Public relations and TDM may seem like an unlikely pair, but there can be multiple benefits to leveraging the media to engage new audiences and spread your message further. You will hear from some public relation experts about PR 101 and how you can make the connection between your transportation and mobility programs and ways to gain a more positive public perception.

Towanda Long, APR, Public Relations Society of America
Towanda Long, APR, is a corporate communications professional specializing in public relations, branding and marketing communications. Her background includes global consumer and b-to-b brands. At Charlotte Pipe, a manufacturing company, she manages strategy and tactics for internal and external communications. She also serves as in-house advisor for social media and online initiatives. Towanda volunteers with PRSA, serving as president of the Charlotte Chapter and Chair of the Corporate Communications section.
Juliann Sheldon, Charlotte Area Transit System
Juliann Sheldon joined the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in 2015 as a Public & Community Relations Specialist. She has managed the communications for several capital transit projects while working on general public relations initiatives. In late 2019, Sheldon assumed the role of Acting Public Relations Manager where she has effectively communicated the ever-changing conditions of the transit system throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to joining CATS, Sheldon held several PR positions within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where she expanded her knowledge of crisis messaging, media relations and community relations. Juliann received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Advertising & Public Relations from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a member of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and graduate of the EnoMAX leadership program.
