Roadside safety hardware is a proven safety countermeasure for when vehicles physically leave the roadway. Hardware, such as barriers, sign supports, and work zone devices are commonly used to reduce the potential severity of crashes on the roadside. Knowing how, when and where to install roadside hardware can be a challenge for transportation agencies. Furthermore, maintenance and replacement of installed hardware with newer more advanced hardware adds to the challenge.
