June 28, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for a free webinar on June 28, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 pm ET/10:00am-12:00 pm PT, hosted by FHWA in cooperation with the National Local Technical Assistance Program Association (NLTAPA) and the National Center for Rural Road Safety. Please see below for registration information and forward this announcement to anyone else who may be interested.
Rural roadway departures account for approximately one-third of all U.S. traffic fatalities—about 30 people a day. The FHWA has identified proven countermeasures https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https:%2F%2Flnks.gd%2Fl%2FeyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDAsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMjA1MjMuNTgzMjM0OTEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3NhZmV0eS5maHdhLmRvdC5nb3YvcHJvdmVuY291bnRlcm1lYXN1cmVzLyJ9.sTd3eg3al_jeTpYFSe0KuV6r2TSCd0FoQAjY8WLERe0%2Fs%2F1159082835%2Fbr%2F131760051676-l&data=05%7C01%7Cdavid.aimen%40ejb.rutgers.edu%7Cd0192d025944450ff68f08da3cdaf09b%7Cb92d2b234d35447093ff69aca6632ffe%7C1%7C0%7C637889208291174254%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=7jbaeU7Xg7%2Ff13f6keJWd9JVYnoVu1msFGFaSiyGUUM%3D&reserved=0 to reduce the number and severity of these crashes.

This webinar will focus on how four transportation agencies are implementing these countermeasures.

State, local, and tribal stakeholders – come and learn how you can too reduce fatalities and serious injuries on your rural roads.

Licking County, Ohio

Matt Hill will present the County’s use of wider edge lines on Welsh Hill Road, one of the County’s top 5 roads for crash severity. Matt’s presentation will include details on materials and crash reduction estimates.

Buchannon County, Iowa

Brian Keierleber will discuss implementation of proven roadway departure countermeasures that were identified in the County’s Local Road Safety Plan. The presentation will focus on paved shoulders and the SafetyEdgeSM.

Oregon DOT

Zoe Keve will present the State’s success in reducing severe head-on crashes using cable median barrier in a non-freeway application with a narrow paved median on the Mount Hood Highway (US-26).

Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) Community

Todd Mulvey will share how the Potawatomi Community is partnering with the Forest County (Wisconsin) Highway Department to reduce roadway departures on county roads by enhancing delineation of horizontal curves and adding edge lines.

This webinar is free and open to anyone who is interested.
