Addressing Long-Term Effects of Aging Government Fleet Assets

As government fleets continue to age and funding constraints persist, agencies are increasingly challenged to make informed, defensible decisions about asset replacement. Documenting and sharing successful fleet management practices can help fleet managers and DOT stakeholders better assess long-term impacts and prioritize limited resources among competing agency needs.
TRB will host a webinar on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that will highlight two successful DOT approaches for estimating the costs associated with delaying fleet asset replacement beyond the optimal replacement period. This webinar will focus on practices and procedures used to evaluate long-term effects of aging fleet assets and the tradeoffs involved in deferred replacement. Presenters will discuss how these approaches support the development of decision-making tools and models that effectively communicate long-term impacts to agency leadership and other decision makers.
