The mission of the NJ State Technology Innovation Council is to identify, evaluate, and where and when possible, rapidly deploy new technologies and process improvements that will accelerate project delivery and improve the quality of NJ’s transportation network.
Do you have an idea that could help NJDOT accomplish this mission?
Innovative ideas should be:
- Based on new technologies or processes
- Rapidly deployable
- Ready for market
- Well researched
- Proven in practice (technologies, tactics, or approaches)
Examples include:
- Ultra-High Performance Concrete
- Road Diets
- Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil-Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS)
- Data Driven Safety Analysis

NJDOT’s Bureau of Research, Innovation & Information Transfer (BRIIT) gathers and shares research ideas from research customers and other transportation stakeholders.
BRIIT supports research that leads to real-world implementation—whether through the adoption of new materials, the improvement of specifications, or the advancement of efficiency across the transportation system. The goal is to identify and develop feasible solutions that support more durable infrastructure, environmental resilience, and improved mobility and safety for all who travel in New Jersey.

If your idea or comment relates to a maintenance issue, please let us know. Common concerns include:
- Traffic signal or sign problems
- Potholes
- Overgrown vegetation
- Roadkill or animal carcasses

- Other roadway maintenance issues
